Ergonomic Training

Online Live Private Ergonomic Training

With the arrival of COVID-19 I am now providing an online service of private Pilates sessions (at least until the studio has been given the green light to reopen). In addition I am offering a new service of Ergonomic Assessments which might help to alleviate the aches and pains that could be a result of your new “stay at home” lifestyle. Both of these services are offered by using Zoom which has been incredibly well received and user friendly, even for the non-computer savvy.

As people have been sheltering in place I have been hearing many more complaints of various aches and pains as they engage  in various work or leisure activities for more hours than usual.  My training as an Occupational Therapist and Pilates Instructor puts me in a unique position. My focus as an Occupational Therapist was on ergonomics which is defined as “the study of how people work in their environment.” As a Pilates Instructor our primary focus is on postural alignment.

My new service of online  Ergonomic Assessments involves looking at  whatever activity you are doing, be it working on a computer, playing an instrument, gardening, cooking, watching  television etc.,  that might be contributing to your increased aches and pains.  I will  observe you in your environment  performing a task and provide suggestions on how to adapt it  to be more body friendly, increasing  your tolerance for the activity.  For example perhaps your desk and chair height can be altered to be more appropriate for you, putting less stress on your neck, shoulders or low back.    I can also instruct you on Pilates based exercises for improving  alignment and strength.  These sessions will be customized to your own specific needs, desires and abilities.

These minor aches and pains are our bodies way of telling us there is  something  a little off in our alignment.  Over time these discomforts can alter our body mechanics and posture leading to bigger issues and the need for greater intervention.  Therefore this is truly a preventive measure!
